The Greater Joliet Area YMCA is inviting area seniors to take part in upcoming Fab 50 Adventures events! Fab 50 Adventures are the perfect way to enjoy a day out with friends and make memories together. Learn more below.

Aurora Mall Shopping
Date: Monday, July 14
Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Join us for a fun day of shopping at the Aurora Outlet Mall. Transportation is included. Space is limited. Departure will be from the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.

Cost: $10, open to the community

Joliet Slammers Game
Date: Sunday, August 3
Time: 12:05 p.m.-4 p.m.

Join us for a day at the ballpark! First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Gates open one hour prior to the game’s start. Family members are also welcomed to join in the fun. A ticket must be purchased for every person in attendance. Transportation will not be provided.

Land & Water Cruise – Starved Rock Lodge
Date: Friday, September 12
Time: 10:45 a.m.-3 p.m.

Enjoy a relaxing trolley ride and scenic boat cruise along the Illinois River and lunch in the lodge’s restaurant. You’ll learn about Starved Rock’s history and legends of the area. Transportation is included. Departure will be from the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.

Cost: $75, open to the community

Elvis Tribute Show – Starved Rock Lodge
Date: Friday, September 12
Time: 11:45 a.m.-3 p.m.

Michael St. Angel will be at Starved Rock Lodge as ‘The King of Rock and Roll’ takes the stage. You can rock to the hits that made Elvis famous and Michael will also be featuring many of the gospel hits that started Elvis’ career. Keep the spirit of Rockin’ and Rollin’ alive! Lunch and transportation included. Departure will be from the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.

Cost: $75, open to the community

Area residents are invited to attend a free Health and Wellness Fair, which is designed to promote healthy living and connect area seniors with a variety of resources in the Plainfield area.

Reaching Your Goals: Participate in the Morris Hospital YMCA’s Couch to Cornfest 5K Training Program

Are you ready to lace up your sneakers and conquer your running goals? Designed for beginners and aspiring runners alike, our eight-week Couch to 5K training program will provide you with a structured roadmap to build endurance, strength, and confidence step-by-step. With a supportive community, personalized coaching, and a dash of determination, you’ll soon discover the exhilarating thrill of crossing that finish line and unlock a whole new level of fitness and accomplishment.

Dates: Mondays from August 4-September 22
Time: 5:30-6:15 p.m.

Weekly classes will include an educational topic, question and answer session, and a group walk/run. All participants will receive an eight-week training plan and save $10 on their registration for the 2025 Corn Fest 5K, which will be held on Saturday, September 27.

Cost: $80 for Facility Members, $160 for Community Members

About the Instructor:
Christy Lamaze, a certified NASM Personal Trainer, will lead this program. Christy has completed numerous marathons, most recently the Berlin Marathon, and has logged more than 2,000 race miles. She is currently training to compete in the Chicago Half-Marathon and plans to run the New York Marathon.

Four Tips on Finding Fulfillment During Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month. Established in 1963, Older Americans Month is dedicated to acknowledging the contributions and achievements of older Americans, while sharing the importance of finding fulfillment in the aging process. In honor of this month, here are a few tips from the Administration for Community Living on how to find fulfillment by paving our own paths as we age. 

1. Embrace the opportunity to change. Find a new passion, go on an adventure and push boundaries by not letting age define your limits. Invite creativity and purpose into your life by trying new activities in your community to bring in more growth, joy and energy.

2. Explore the rewards of growing older. With age comes knowledge, which provides insight and confidence to understand and experience the world more deeply. Continue to grow that knowledge through reading, listening, classes and creative activities.
