Leaving a Legacy

bill-sull-webBill Sullivan was first introduced to the YMCA around 1940 when he was just eight-years-old. His parents took him to the Peru, Illinois branch where he learned to swim and learned about the Y’s Christian principles.

Throughout the next several decades, Bill stayed apprised of Y work in the communities where he lived but became most deeply invested after joining the Galowich Family YMCA 15 years ago.

More than a place to lift weights and complete his cardio workout, Bill has formed friendships with Y members and staff. The Y has become a second home for him.

Bill cares so much about the Y that he pledged to help ensure its future through a gift in his will. This gift, which will be realized after his lifetime, is called a “bequest” and is a popular form of Legacy Giving.

For his generous commitment, Bill will be inducted into the YMCA’s Heritage Club later this month.

Thank you, Bill, for making our Y a better place today with your smile and gentle spirit, and through your special gift in the future.

Making Improvements To Serve You Better

Announcing the Healthy Living Corridor

healthycorridor2To better accommodate the fitness needs of our membership base and the Joliet community, the Galowich Family YMCA will be opening its new Healthy Living Corridor at its Houbolt Road location on Monday, October 17.

With hopes of supporting members of all ages in their quest to live healthy lifestyles, the Y’s new Healthy Living Corridor will feature our newly renovated Wellness Center and brand new Fitness Studio.

Wellness Center
The Galowich Family YMCA’s newly renovated Wellness Center will feature new cardio and strength machines and additional free weights. These new pieces of equipment will provide health seekers with limitless opportunities to train smarter and more effectively. The new Wellness Center will also feature a user-friendly layout, additional windows and mirrors, and energizing paint colors.

Fitness Studio
This fall, the Y will be renovating the racquetball court and converting it into a new Fitness Studio. This new modern space will boast a drop ceiling with a built-in speaker system, adjustable lighting, additional mirrors and a welcoming double-glass door entryway. Once completed, this new space will become home to our youth and adult group exercise classes, personal training sessions and a host of new fitness classes.

During the renovation, Galowich Family YMCA members are welcome and encouraged to utilize the Wellness Centers at the Morris Community YMCA and the Smith and C.W. Avery Family YMCAs. We look forward to celebrating the grand opening of our new Healthy Living Corridor with you this fall.

Amazing Learning Experiences

waterpoloWater Polo (Ages 17 and Under)

Now offered at the Galowich and Smith Family YMCAs

A leader in aquatics for more than 100 years, the YMCA invites you to join it’s new Water Polo class! Held twice per week, this introductory class will help students improve their swimming ability and conditioning, while also teaching them basic water polo skills such as passing and shooting.

REQUIREMENTS
All participants must have passed the Minnow level of swimming lessons or be able to proficiently swim one length of the pool and tread water for two minutes without using their hands.

RATES
$70 for Full Members, $140 for Program Members

Annual Campaign Dinner

ac2Join us on Wednesday, May 25 as we gather at BD’s Mongolian Grill in Bolingbrook to celebrate our Annual Campaign and raise funds for the Y.

By supporting the Y’s Annual Campaign, you can help to ensure that no one is turned away from the Y due to the inability to pay. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.

Let’s Play Ball!

softballRegister for the Y’s Adult Softball League

Dust off your bats and gloves because it’s time for another season of summer softball at the Y! Two adult leagues are available: A co-ed/church league and a men’s league.

Games will be played on weekday evenings. Members and non-members 18 or older are welcome to play. Two Full Members must be registered to be considered a Full Member team.

Co-ed/Church Softball League
May 17-July 5
Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m.

Men’s Softball League
May 19-July 7
Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m.

Full Member Team: $325
Non-Member Team: $450
