YMCA sports camps focus on fundamental skills and promote the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. Each camp is filled with positive activities that encourage campers to participate in active games and team challenges. Our number one goal is fun!
The Galowich Family YMCA is offering 10 exciting sports camps this summer, including basketball, broomball, floor hockey, football and soccer, among others.
The Greater Joliet Area YMCA is the recipient of a $10,000 grant courtesy of Midland States Bank. The gift will directly benefit the Y’s Teen Achievers Program, an academic-based program that guides local students on their path to graduating high school, attending college and achieving career goals.
Since 2005, the YMCA has offered the Teen Achievers Program to Joliet high school students. This past fall, the program expanded its services to Plainfield South High school. The growing program currently serves 107 area students in total.
To accompany its new swim lesson curriculum, the Y is happy to introduce it’s Swim Lesson Selector. Available online today, this tool is a must-try for parents who are interested in enrolling their children in YMCA swimming lessons.
By answering short “yes-or-no” questions—and in some cases, by watching a short video—the Swim Lesson Selector can help you quickly identify which swim stage is right for your child.

This fall, the Greater Joliet Area YMCA will be introducing a fresh, new swim lesson curriculum, designed to enhance its tradition of keeping the community safe and secure around the water and instilling a healthy lifestyle.
Created by the YMCA of the USA and tested extensively by Y’s across the nation, this new curriculum accommodates varying abilities to help foster a sense of achievement as swimmers progress between clearly defined stages.
Through this approach, advanced swimmers flow more easily to higher levels while swimmers who need more instruction can learn at their own pace. This approach results in more confident swimmers and a newfound admiration for swimming that can last a lifetime.
