Reminder About Weather-Related School Closings

Now that the winter weather has arrived, we’d like to remind you that in the event of a snow day or weather-related school closing, the Y will host a Day Out of School. Participants should plan to bring a lunch, snacks, bathing suit and towel.

Available at the C.W. Avery, Galowich and Smith Family YMCAs
Open to grades K-8. Participants don’t have to be enrolled in Kid Zone to attend. Registration will be available both online and at the YMCA.

7 a.m.-6 p.m.

Rates
$30 for Facility Members, $45 for Community Members

Books are a great way to spark your child’s imagination, while also fostering a lifelong passion for reading. In an effort to inspire kids to read, the Y will be distributing books to children of all ages on Wednesday, October 26 while supplies last.

New Class Alert: Strength Train Together

We are thrilled to announce that our new and improved Fall 2 fitness lineup will include Strength Train Together.

In a format that’s comparable to Body Pump, Strength Train Together will blast all your muscles with a high-rep weight training workout. Using an adjustable barbell, weight plates and body weight, this workout combines squats, lunges, presses and curls, with functional integrated exercises.

Dynamic music and a motivating group atmosphere will get your heart rate up, make you sweat and push you to a personal best. Come see for yourself!

Strength Train Together will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at various times. Visit our online fitness schedule for specifics.

Volunteer Spotlight: Gus Rousonelos

garden-webChildren in the C.W. Avery Family YMCA’s summer day camp program had the opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy eating while tending to the YMCA’s garden this summer thanks to the generosity of longtime member and Y supporter Gus Rousonelos.

This spring, Gus purchased and planted all the seeds and plants for the garden to ensure it was already growing when the kids arrived on the first day of summer camp.

Rousonelos also teamed up with part-time staff member Melissa Vidito to speak with the campers each week about gardening and nutrition. Campers even had the opportunity to taste test a variety of different fruits and vegetables throughout the summer.

Thank you, Gus, for being a loyal Y member and supporting our summer camp program.

Camp YES Adaptive Summer Camp

The C.W. Avery Family YMCA’s adaptive summer camp program is designed to provide individuals with special needs with access to a variety of recreational activities.

Designed for kids in grades 1-9, these one-week camps will feature indoor and outdoor recreational activities that will challenge participant’s body and mind. Through positive recreational experiences, participants will gain confidence through skill development and social engagement with other campers and YMCA staff. But most importantly, kids in the Y’s adaptive summer camp program will work toward a healthy mind, body and spirit while having a lot of fun!

Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and a healthy afternoon snack. Campers will have the opportunity to swim one day during the week. Participants must be able to care for their own personal care needs.

June 13-17
June 27-July 1
July 18-22

12:30-3 p.m.
