Teens, ages 13-15, who wish to have access to Village of Shorewood YMCA fitness equipment, cardio equipment, and group fitness classes ARE REQUIRED to complete a Teen Wellness Center certification class.
This 60-minute class will provide participants with comprehensive and informative training on how to properly utilize strength and cardio equipment. YMCA health and wellness staff will offer hands-on instruction and support, ensuring teens are set up for success at the YMCA from day one, reducing the risk of injury to themselves and others.
Class participants will also learn correct techniques and gym etiquette, helping them understand the Y’s expectations around behavior, respect for others, and proper use of shared spaces, allowing them to feel comfortable navigating the wellness center on their own.
By setting a consistent standard, this certification class will help the Y maintain a safe, inclusive space for members of all ages and experience levels.
Participants will be required to pass a written and practical test the day of the course to receive their certification.
Teens who have completed the class will be required to wear a special wristband indicating certification when they enter the Wellness Center.
Cost: $20
PLEASE NOTE: Members under the age of 16 will not be allowed to use free weights, cable machines, or plate loaded equipment. Members between the ages of 13-15 who have received their wellness center certification may participate in group fitness classes that do not use free weights. All machines/equipment teens can use after successfully completing the certification class feature a blue YMCA sticker.
You can also schedule an appointment for certification by visiting the Membership Desk or by contacting Village of Shorewood YMCA Health and Wellness Director Alissa Koenig at [email protected] or (815) 782-0802.
