College Readiness Programs

Fall 2018

College Readiness Programs are designed to help students in grades 9-12, and young adults under the age of 21, achieve their higher education goals.

College Tours

All college tours will depart from the Galowich Family YMCA, located at 749 Houbolt Road in Joliet. Students will spend the day visiting local premier institutions of higher learning. Lunch will be provided.

  • $20 for YMCA Facility Members
  • $30 for Community Members

Seminars & Workshops

All upcoming seminars and workshops will be held at the Galowich Family YMCA, located at 749 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

FAFSA Workshop
Thursday, October 24 • 6-8 p.m.

Facilitated by an Illinois Student Assistance Commision representative, this interactive session is intended to walk students and their families through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process.

All participants should bring the following materials:

  • Social Security Number
  • Alien Registration Number (if applicable)
  • 2017 federal income tax returns, W-2s and other records of money earned (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
  • Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

By the end of the evening, you’ll create a Federal Student Aid ID, which enables you to sign and submit your FAFSA electronically.

Cost: Free for YMCA Facility Members, $5 for Community Members

Career Conversations
Saturday, December 1 • 10 a.m.-Noon

Having the personal and professional fortitude to be prepared as you enter the workplace is crucial to one’s early professional success. Join us to learn how to Build Your Own Brand (BYOB) and effectively prepare yourself for success and sustained growth in the workplace. You’ll also receive interviewing tips from one of the world’s largest employers and manufacturers.

Cost: Free for YMCA Facility Members, $5 for Community Members
