College Readiness Programs

Summer 2018

College Readiness Programs are designed to help students in grades 9-12, and young adults under the age of 21, achieve their higher education goals.

College Tours

All college tours will depart from the Galowich Family YMCA, located at 749 Houbolt Road in Joliet. Students will spend the day visiting local premier institutions of higher learning. Lunch will be provided.

Northern Tour: Northern Illinois University & Wheaton College
Tuesday, June 19 • 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Local Tour: University of Saint Francis & Lewis University
Thursday, July 12 • 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Chicago Tour: University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) & DePaul University
Tuesday, August 4 • 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cost:

  • $20 for YMCA Facility Members
  • $30 for Community Members

Seminars & Workshops

All upcoming seminars and workshops will be held at the Galowich Family YMCA, located at 749 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

Empowerment Day
Thursday, June 28 • 9:30-11 a.m.

Come be empowered and inspired! Participate in an informational and transformational session on higher education and get prepared to take the next step in preparing for your future. All participants will receive college readiness resources and additional capacity-building information.

Cost:

  • FREE for YMCA Facility Members
  • $5 for Community Members

Career Conversations
Thursday, July 19 • 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Having the personal and professional fortitude to be prepared as you enter the workplace is crucial to one’s early professional success. Join us to learn how to Build Your Own Brand (BYOB) and effectively prepare yourself for success and sustained growth in the workplace. You’ll also receive interviewing tips from one of the world’s largest employers and manufacturers.

Cost:

  • $5 for YMCA Facility Members
  • $10 for Community Members

Financial Aid & FAFSA Workshop
Thursday, August 23 • 6-8 p.m.

This session is intended to give students and their families insight and knowledge into the world of financial aid and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will leave this workshop with information and thought that will help you prepare to secure much-needed funding for higher education.

Cost: Free and open to all.
