Jon Wilson Named Director of Competitive Aquatics

We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Jon Wilson as the Director of Competitive Aquatics. Wilson will be responsible for the vision, philosophy and operation of the Y’s renowned competitive swimming club, the Joliet Y JETS Swim Team.

“I am very excited to join the Greater Joliet Area YMCA family,” Wilson stated. “I look forward to working with the swimmers, coaches and parents of the JETS program. The team’s tradition of excellence is something I hope to continue.”

Wilson joins the Greater Joliet Area YMCA with 25 years of coaching experience, including 20 years at the NCAA level. Most recently he was the Head Coach and Senior Aquatic Director at the Woodson YMCA in Wausau, Wisc. He also served as the Interim Head Coach for the Oshkosh YMCA in Oshkosh, Wisc.

During his tenure with the Woodson YMCA, Wilson coached the Woodson Y Northern Swimmers, a competitive swim team with 200 swimmers and 20 assistant coaches. He also oversaw and managed all aquatics programming, from swim lessons to water sports. As the Interim Head Coach for the Oshkosh YMCA, Wilson mentored 17 senior-level athletes that qualified for competition at YMCA Nationals.

From 2008-2015, Wilson was the men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Under his leadership, the team produced two individual national champions, nine All-Americans and 11 WIAC champions.

Wilson previously coached the women’s swimming and diving team at Northern Michigan University. His professional coaching career began in 1995 at Ripon College, where he was the head coach for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving team. In 2003, he was named the Midwest Conference Men’s Coach of the Year.

Prior to coaching, Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion and wellness from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

He is the proud father of three children: Tyler, 22, Connor, 21, and Ashley, 19.
