College Readiness Programs

Area high school students are invited to join the YMCA for a number of College Readiness Programs this summer.

COLLEGE TOURS

  • Thursday, June 15: Participants will spend the day visiting North Park College and Loyola University.
  • Thursday, July 27: Participants will spend the day visiting Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University.

Cost per Day: $20 for YMCA Facility Members; $30 for Community Members

INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS

Knowledge is Power
Thursday, July 13 • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This empowering event will feature an opening keynote address led by local business owner and community leader Howard Wright, informational and interactive breakout sessions, and an educational town hall discussion on navigating the changing landscape of higher education and the workplace in the new millennium. Panelists will include representatives from Governors State University, Joliet Job Corps, Joliet Junior College, Lewis University and the University of St. Francis. Lunch will be provided.

Something Greater Empowerment Day
Thursday, August 10 • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Having the personal and professional fortitude to be prepared as you enter the workplace is crucial to one’s early professional success. In this one-day seminar, Jace Smith, the Achievers Director at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston, will teach you how to Build Your Own Brand (BYOB) and effectively prepare yourself for success and sustained growth in the workplace. Participants will also receive interviewing tips from one of the world’s largest employers, courtesy of Caterpillar’s Human Resources Manager Shayla Smith.
