National Hunger Action Month

PlainfieldHAMSeptember is National Hunger Action Month and many community organizations, including the Y, are getting involved by collecting food for the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry and the St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry.

FOOD DRIVE
One of many drop-off sites throughout Plainfield, the C.W. Avery Family will be accepting donations from August 22 through September 23.

Recommendation donations include: oatmeal/cereal; canned chicken and tuna; peanut butter and jelly; pasta and pasta sauce; flour/sugar; rice; canned fruits and vegetables; soups/ramen; macaroni & cheese; condiments; and boxed potatoes. Personal hygiene products (soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste); baby items (diapers, wipes, formula, and food); household cleaning products; and paper products (tissues, toilet paper, paper towel) are also welcomed.

“FOOD FOR FITNESS” EVENT
To encourage participation, the Y will be hosting “Food for Fitness” on Saturday, September 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. The “cost” to attend is five cans of non-perishable food per person. Open to the entire community, this event includes 40-minute classes of Zumba and WERQ, among others. You’re invited to take them all or just drop in for one class!
