Capital Campaigns
As our community grows, so must our YMCA. You can help by supporting our capital campaigns. Many individuals look to their YMCA’s to provide a place to develop healthier lifestyles. The Greater Joliet Area YMCA welcomes the opportunity to address these needs. To provide effective service, each of our 3 full service branches requires regular repairs, improvements and expansions. Two of our full service branches were built in 1978. The most recent facility was built in 2006. Capital gifts are an essential component in our ability to deliver quality service.
How Donations are Used
Our Capital Campaigns fund new construction and allow for renovations of existing facilities. This enables the YMCA to provide the programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all in Will, Grundy and parts of Kendall Counties. For details on the results of recent capital campaigns, please see the impact stories for the C. W. Avery Family YMCA Capital Campaign and the Lois and Cliff Berglund Family Aquatic Center Capital Campaign.
Vision for the Future
Currently there are no major Campaigns actively underway. However, YMCA volunteers and staff are currently planning for significant growth in multiple areas. This includes the following:
- Morris Family YMCA Facility- The Morris Family YMCA was chartered in December of 2008. The community has expressed strong interest for the construction of a facility within their local area. The Y now has a future home on 15 acres of property located on Route 6 and Pioneer Road in Morris, thanks to the vision and generosity of the Ron Evenson and Mark Jorstad families. Both Capital and Program Committees are now being formed. The Y is currently partnering with local School Districts 54, 60C and 101 offering programs which presently include a co-ed winter youth basketball league, a co-ed Spring and Fall Volleyball program and summer day camp. Discussions are on-going regarding a temporary storefront-type location which would expand programming from pre-school to seniors.
- Smith YMCA Outdoor Sports Field-Plans are in progress to develop a new outdoor recreational sports field behind the Smith Family YMCA.
- Gymnasium Expansion at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA-Due to heavy use and space limitations, the YMCA plans to expand the C. W. Avery Family YMCA gymnasium.
The YMCA welcomes gifts for facility renovation/ repair improvements at any time.
