The Jets Y Swim Team offers an exciting opportunity for all levels of swimmers to experience competitive swimming. Swimmers are grouped according to ability and age to best suit their skills and social needs while helping them achieve their maximum performance. Practice is voluntary for all age groups and swim meet participation is encouraged, but not required. The swim team has two seasons, fall/winter and spring/summer, welcoming swimmers ages 6 to 22 years old. The JETS are one of the top contributors to the swimming community on both a local and national scale. During our rich history, the JETS have developed numerous national champions, one Olympic swimmer and, even more importantly, hundreds of community leaders. YMCAs are widely recognized as America’s leading resource in aquatics. In YMCA programs, children and adults learn not only how to swim, but also about leadership, safety and rescue skills, and water activities that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
To participate in the JETS YMCA Swim Team, swimmers must be able to complete one length of freestyle and one length of backstroke without stopping. Those who do NOT meet that requirement, can sign up for “Flight School Swim Clinic” held at the Smith Family YMCA or Porpoise Club, held at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.
Swimmers practice at both the Galowich Family YMCA and the Smith Family YMCA. Times vary based on swim level. Meets occur throughout the season at various locations. For more details, visit www.jetsyswimteam.org or contact Coach Dave Hedden at 815-726-3939 X412 or dhedden@jolietymca.or.
