Michelle & Anna Take Cardio Interval At The Galowich Family YMCA

Michelle and Anna went to grab a work out together after their interview on WJOL. They expected to simply get on a machine in the wellness center, but were pleasantly surprised when they saw one of the Y's Fitness Instructor's Kelly, on her way out the door to teach a new morning class on the 1/2 mile track. Kelly says she is trying to add a morning class to accommodate the moms that stay home and others that have time for a 9am class on Thursday mornings.

Tracy & Carl Play Racquetball at the Galowich Family YMCA

Tracy James, Aquatics Director and Carl Engfer, Lifeguard, play racquetball at the Galowich Family YMCA.  Tracy and Carl have both been working extra hard these past few weeks to put activity into their day.  Racquetball is one way they’ve found to keep activity fun and exciting.  It puts a break into their day while allowing them to spend time with a friend.  Tracy says she’s addicted to the ‘weight loss interval’ on the elliptical machine but since it’s only 7,788 steps for a ½ hour, she has to add a little something extra each day to reach the prize level she’s shooting for in the staff challenge.  A racquetball match is the perfect addition.  You can find racquetball courts at the Galowich and Smith Family YMCAs in Joliet.

Erik Schelling Grabs a Workout on His Way Home At The Galowich Family YMCA

Erik Schelling, Assistant Vice President of PeopleFirstBank comes from the group of 'once fit'. He used to exercise on a regular basis, but hasn’t in about 5 years. As he got started the first week, he shared that it was hard the first day, but got a little easier each day he went on. At first he said his legs felt like tree trunks as he walked the treadmill in the wellness center. The next day they got a little lighter and the next day lighter still. They key, he said, is to keep pushing through and keep going. Erik has a five year old son and a baby girl. In addition to his workouts, he enjoys doing things with his wife and children where he can incorporate extra activity. As a board member of the Joliet Chambers Young Professionals Group, Erik works to help other young professionals learn how to find balance and incorporate creative ways to fit activity into their busy workdays. He says in doing so, they can be more effective both at work and at home. It is Erik’s goal to get back down to a healthy weight, which will allow him to join the ‘now fit’ group again.
